After a hectic December/January, things have quietened down a bit at Eshowe Country Club with a few functions still keeping us busy. Ongoing maintenance is keeping the buildings and surrounds looking good and the patio outside the Rotunda has new furniture which makes it a popular spot on a hot afternoon for a drink fanned by cool sea breezes.
After a recent holiday in the UK Dave Davenport says that in his opinion the UK is at least three times more expensive than South Africa and he has drawn up a comparison which he calls a Day in my Life on Eshowe Hills
Playing in Golf competitions on the pristine Eshowe Hills course is a unique experience. Enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of fellow players on a scenic and well maintained, challenging Zululand course, within easy reach of Ballito, and Durban to the south and Richards Bay to the north.
This Friday the 6th November is arguably our biggest golfing day of the year, it is the Nkwalini Citrus Golf day and it promises to be an amazing day with the weather looking great.
The tee-off is at 12:00 sharp and is a shot-gun start.
Please be sure to sure to get here at least 40 mins/1 hour before to pick up your score card and find out which hole your team is on.
The Referees golf day which was held on Friday the 4th was a huge success. The day started with the infamous Eshowe rain and mist pitching up unexpectedly, luckily the weather gods were with us and it cleared by the time everyone teed off. A big thank you to Eshowe Auto, Muffler, Eshowe Hills and Zululand observer for supporting and making it a fantastic day. All the visitors were very impressed with the estate and the good news is that the referees society have booked their golf day at Eshowe Hills for the next 2 years. The day was won by the DDI Group from Durban with the Eshowe Hills side coming a creditable 3rd.
Our 2015 club champ is Pat Mclaverty…..congrats to our club captain. 2 days of calm conditions led to the scoring being a little better then expected. Pat’s gross 34(2 under par for 9 holes) on Saturday afternoon making all the difference, Ryan Dahl was runner up 4 shots behind. Dave Davenport won the B div on 169 gross beating George Peterson by 1 shot.
The C div was won by Sipho Masuku on 65 points pipping Nico Ras by 2 points. The ladies champ had the best gross overall on 145…..well played Tanya Lyon. The Junior championship was won by Murray Dahl, nice to see the Junior cup back in play with hopefully a few more entrants next year.
It was a fantastic 2 days of golf, I would like to thank all the competitors for taking time out of their busy schedules and supporting the club champs. Lastly to Anand and Eshowe Auto for the sponsorship of the tournament. They supplied the meals on Saturday/Sunday and all the prizes. A big THANK YOU!
Eshowe is a little town on the north coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Just under 100 kms from the bustling seaside town of Ballito and the industrial centre of Richards Bay respectively, the town of Eshowe is to be found in the hills overlooking the hot and humid coastal plains of Zululand. The lush and refreshing climate attracted the settlers and the Zulu Prince Cetswayo, who built his kraal in the area.
South Africa is a golfers dream. Year round good weather ensures that, for the most part, you will always get your round of golf in. But even South Africa has a winter and golfers in Johannesburg have to brave frosty tee-boxes and sub-zero temperatures, while in the Cape golfers pack their raincoats and brandish their umbrellas to play a round of golf in the Cape wet winter.
One of the oldest golf estates in South Africa is the Eshowe Hills Golf Course. The golf course is situated 500 meters above sea level on the north coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Established in 1907 by the local community, the dream of a golf course became a reality. In the 1950’s the golf course was upgraded by Bob Grimsdell.
